Past Loves of My Life, Part 2: 1980 to 1985, The Awakening

In Life, Past Loves on July 7, 2012 by Elle Severe

I discovered this gentleman around 1983 or so and along with John Travolta, he’s been a long term lover. This guy is just handsome and big and blonde and he’s a Boston boy and he played for the Raiders and he’s tough and strong and smart. Bottom line: he’s quality ass.  I’ve introduced him to many a friend and they all agree that he’s amazing.  Like a fine wine, this guy is aging beautifully.  He just gets better every year. I also love him for the fact that he married his college sweetheart, Diane; a very intelligent woman who was a Classical Studies major in college.  They are still married to this day and three have strapping blonde boys.

You bet you’re in the Hall of Fame. MY Hall of Fame.

Since Howie was from Charlestown and I had friends from Charlestown, it was easy to do weird stalkery things like go see my friend Amy and get slushes  and then park outside his Nana’s house during the holidays hoping to catch a quick glimpse.  I never saw him but now I get to see him every Sunday and that’s good enough for me.

Oh my God, that SMILE. Stop. I can’t.

Okay, last one, I swear.  Sorry.  But seriously? Look at him.

With a goatee no less. Heaven.

I bought this on the stands back in 1984, I still have it.

Not for sale.

It lives up in my parents attic (my old bedroom, the suite) next to several other magazines over 20 years old, including, but not limited to, a 1986 Rolling Stone magazine featuring Jim McMahon on the cover and many, many Tiger Beats.

The thing about Howie is that he is just plain old f*cking awesome.  When he played ball he was a badass mother f*cker and widely considered to be one of the greatest to ever play the game, hence his induction into the Hall of Fame, class of 2000.  And now he’s just this sweet funny commentator enjoying his life.  I would like it if we didn’t talk about his movie “career”, please.  We all make mistakes.  How ironic that his would be in a movie with my other long term lover, John Travolta.  If you must know, the movie is called Broken Arrow, if you watch it, you’ll be one of about 50 people who have ever seen it, naturally I have…but mostly so I could get a mental picture of the two of them in the same shot so that I could then picture myself mashed up and naked in between them.

This guy is the total package. Kisses.

Hahahahaha, I LIED! PSYCH! I threw in one more, I can do that because it’s my post!

Alright, so let’s recap: Tom Selleck, Salami, Jason Bateman, Mark Harmon and Howie Long.

I’m nervous to even begin the next chapter, but also excited because there will be an in depth discussion on The Outsiders.  Exciting times.
